Curriculum |
Our curriculum is based on the Cambridge International Curriculum (www.cie.org.uk). In Grades K-5 our guideline is the Cambridge International Primary Program. Students also participate in a number of Specials including music, PE, Amharic, art, library, and IT.
For Grades 6-8 we are using the Cambridge International Lower Secondary Program. Students at this level also have a Specials program. These middle school years are viewed as an important stage of preparation for entry into the higher grades.
Through to Grade 8 students participate annually in a drama program put together over several weeks and then presented to the rest of the school during chapel times and to parents and friends in an evening performance.
In the upper levels of high school, Grades 9-10 students study for the Internation General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). In Grades 11-12 students take A and AS level courses. These exams are externally referenced through the Cambridge International Examination system.
Senior students enter into community service that involves assisting in some way outside the school. This is a valuable exercise in keeping in touch with the context in which we are living. Each year from Grade 7-11 there is a trip that takes students out of the city environment to experience more of Ethiopia and develop an awareness of self and others. In Grade 12 much planning and preparation goes into a exciting, celebratory senior trip, taking students outside the country.
Our school campus is well resourced with an excellent gymnasium, sports field and cross country running track. The school library is well stocked with a range of material overseen by our teacher librarian and her staff. Our goal is to provide the very best for our students, assisting them to strive for their personal best in all areas of the curriculum.
